Research and Scholarly Papers
The bulk of my research was in the philosophical foundations of information systems. The most recent papers used techniques from Analytical Philosophy in an attempt to define the essence of the field of information systems by defining the terms "information" and "information systems".
Many papers addressed The Problem of Universals which is one of the central problems in metaphysics and the central problem in database design. The term "teleology" pops up in a few as a teleological approach focuses on purposes rather than functions which, I believe is more relevant to the design and development of information systems.
And, finally, several papers address ethical issues in information systems as our traditional approaches to ethics are left wanting when discussing the ethical aspects of things that do not yet exist. This problem is spelled out in the Structural Flaws paper. These and several related philosophical issues are presented in my book The Ghost of Socrates which is a more readable and accessible treatment of these issues. The Ghost of Socrates is available as a free download on Academia.edu and for 99 cents as a Kindle book in the Amazon Kindle Store.
I should mention that research is a pain in the butt and can be very frustrating when you write things that just go over everyone's heads. So, now I focus on readability and accessibility at the expense of precision and references. So, I won't be writing any more scholarly papers.
Nonetheless, if you are interested in the titles of the papers see my List of Pubs
